Investigators identify man discovered deceased in Donna orchard

Donna (KFXV) – Investigators with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s office have now identified the man who was discovered dead in an orchard in a rural part of donna over the weekend.

According to the sheriff’s department,investigators identified the person through fingerprinting as a 17-year-old Mexican National. Officials are working with the Mexican Consulate to notify his family, before releasing his identity.

A concerned citizen called police after finding the man in an orchard south of business 83 on Val Verde road in Donna early Saturday morning. Police have ordered an autopsy and are waiting for the results. They have noted that the body showed no visible signs of trauma.

Authorities Need Your Help to Locate Family of Discovered Body

Hidalgo County (KFXV) — The Hidalgo County Sheriff Department needs your help to find the family of a 17-year old male found dead on Val Verde Road. Through his fingerprints authorities have identified the victim as Mario Perez Aguilar– a Mexican National possible from the state of Veracruz. Aguilar’s body was found Sunday in an orchard grove south of Business 83. The consulate is working to find his next of kin.

Orchard Grove Victim’s Girlfriend Accused of Fabricating Evidence

DONNA (KFXV) — New details are revealed in regards to the body that was found on July 23rd.

Fox News was at the hearing today where the victim’s girlfriend is now facing charges. Laura Leticia Vasquez is charged with offense to fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse, a second degree felony. This after she confessed she disposed of her boyfriend’s body. The body of 17-year-old, Carlos Mario Perez Aguilar was found by authorities in The Orchard Grove on July 23rd. This, after a call was made in regards to a deceased body in the area. Upon investigation, Aguilar’s girlfriend, 45-year-old, Vasquez who was living with the victim, confessed in being involved in the incident. According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff; Vasquez says she was outside her home when she entered and saw her boyfriend, Aguilar, deceased after hanging himself with a hose. She states she wanted to call 911 but her brother, Santos Omar Vasquez convinced her not to do for fear of facing police leading them to dispose of the body. Santos Omar Vasquez is still at large. The cause of Aguilar’s death or how the incident unfolded is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, Laura Leticia Vasquez is now facing a bond of $100,000.

Woman Arrested for Filing a False Kidnapping Report

Deputies arrest a woman for filing a false report, claiming she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted. Investigators report 24-year-old, Sandra Elizeth Zavala, told police a man abducted her near Mile 11 and a half North, and FM 493 in rural Donna, and sexually assaulted her while on her way home from a store. Authorities discovered inconsistencies in her story, and she admitted to lying to police because she feared her parents would kick her out if they learned she’d been out with a friend all night.

Deputies arrested Zavala, who now faces a charge of filing a false report.

A reported teen found dead in a Donna orchard is actually 20 years old.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office obtained a copy of Carlos Mario Perez Aguilar’s Mexican birth certificate and his correct age is 20 years old. He may have provided an incorrect date of birth at the time his fingerprints were processed. Police, still searching for Santos Omar Vazquez, brother to 45 year old, Laura Leticia Vazquez, who authorities say was Aguilar’s girlfriend.

She has been arrested in connection to this case.

13-year-old, Priscilla Martinez has been missing for more than 48 hours.

According to her family, she was last seen last Wednesday night in her residence located in rural Donna.
However before 6 o’clock the next morning, Martinez was gone. The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s office says this is a welfare concern investigation and is pursuing all leads.

Former Donna ISD assistant trainer found guilty of indecency with a child

A former Donna ISD assistant trainer guilty of a sexual relationship with an 11 year old student is sentenced.

30 year old, Manuel Castillo handed down five years in jail and 10 years probation after receiving a guilty of indecency with a child by exposure and guilty of a sexual relationship with a minor.

Castillo will be registered as a sex offender for life and will never work for a school district again.

Donna Double Homicide Perpetrator Sentenced

The man accused of a double homicide in Donna in 2015, has been sentenced.

A jury sentenced Victor Briseno to 5 years of probation. The 25-year-old faced a charge of homicide for the murder of two people, during a shooting on Maiz Street in April of 2015. One person died at the scene, and a second died at a hospital while being treated for their injuries.

A third person also received injuries during the shooting.

DONNA — Authorities discover a body in Donna.

We know that sheriff’s investigators are looking into a person found dead outside a home in a white truck on the 1500 block of Bob White Avenue in Donna. Numerous officers swarmed the area and stayed on scene for about two hours as they gathered evidence.

A trial for a Donna woman charged in a deadly crash began today.

Perla Elizabeth Arguelles is charged with intoxication manslaughter.Police said Arguelles crashed into a light pole on FM 1426 near Eldora Road back in January. Juan de Dios Cavazos Hinojosa was a passenger in the car.

The 46-year-old died at the scene.

Drunk Driving Killer Sentenced

Today a woman accused of driving drunk was sentenced for the death of one man The incident happened earlier this year in Donna.Perla Elizabeth Arguelles was found guilty yesterday of intoxication manslaughter, today after much deliberation a sentence was finally determined.In January, Juan De Dios Cavazos Hinojosa was the passenger of a vehicle arguelles was driving when she crashed into a light pole. Hinojosa was pronounced dead at the scene. Today she was sentenced to seven years in prison. The prosecutor in this case spoke to us about how she felt about the results. We also spoke with defense attorney, Arguelles Jesus Villalobos who gave us his thoughts on this case. We tried to get an interview with the victim’s mother but she respectfully declined. According to Villalobos, Arguelles will be eligible for parole when she has served one-fourth of the seven years, he hopes that the court will take into consideration the nine months she has already served.

Inappropriate relationship discovered between a married Donna man and a teen

A Mother is warning parents after she discovers an inappropriate relationship between her teen daughter and a married man from Donna.

She spoke with us outside court chambers this morning where the man Heriberto Loera faced charges of sexual assault.

The teen’s mother says the relationship allegedly started when Loera and her daughter worked at a fast food restaurant together. When she discovered the relationship by checking her child’s phone, her daughter physically attacked her but, she reported it to police.

The family is now in counseling to get through the ordeal. Ultimately, Loera’s hearing was cancelled this morning but he will go before the court on Oct. 25th.

Donna Mayoral Candidate suspends campaign after a judge rules against him

Ernesto Lugo, a former Donna ISD Trustee, suspended his campaign for Mayor Tuesday after a judge ruled against him.

Lugo filed a lawsuit seeking a temporary restraining order against the City of Donna and the Hidalgo County Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramon after the told Lugo he didn’t live within city limits and couldn’t run for office.
According to Ramon, a candidate must live in the city for 6 months in order to be eligible. Judge Bobby Flores of the 139th Court ruled against Lugo.
Fox news reached out to Lugos’ campaign manager for an official comment on the case. All he would confirm is Lugo has suspended his campaign.
At the moment Lugos’ name will remain on the ballot due to the last minute decision, the ex candidate has not released any type of statement.

Donna ISD Superintendent on Administrative Leave

The superintendent of Donna ISD is now on administrative leave.
The district’s board of directors, voted 4 to 3 in favor of Fernando Castillo leaving his post on Friday. The decision was agreed upon during a closed-door meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The directors have not yet disclosed the reason for taking this action. Fernando Castillo became the district’s superintendent after the resignation of the previous superintendent, Jesus Reyna in August of 2016.

Sexual Predator From Dallas Arrested at Donna International Bridge

A traveler is arrested on charges sexual misconduct with a child at the Donna International Bridge.
The man attempting to return from Mexico Thursday afternoon was arrested after agents learned he had an outstanding warrant for indecency with a child-sexual contact out of Dallas.  CBP officers conducted a fingerprint check and confirmed he was indeed 23-year-old, Jesse Mendoza, a US citizen from Dallas. Officers turned Mendoza over to the Donna Police Department for the outstanding warrant.

Fugitive Arrested in Donna

Twenty-seven-year-old Jonathan Jackson was wanted for 2 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Jackson allegedly fired shots against several people travelling in a vehicle. The suspect was detained on highway 281 as he was attempting to flee to Austin. The passenger travelling with him was also detained and interrogated.

Late breaking tonight.–fire crews from Linn-San Manuel and Edinburg are battling a large grass fire near US 281 and FM 186.
Officials say the fire is out of control and are calling for additional aid from surrounding areas.

Man Appeals Death Penalty

A man faced with the death penalty for killing a 60-year-old man in Donna is looking for a new sentence.
Douglas Armstrong appealed his sentence of the death penalty through the Texas Criminal Court of appeals last year.  Armstrong was found guilty of murdering an elderly man in Donna after stealing 150 dollars in cash from him in 2006.  Douglas will return to court for a second time to learn his fate once more.  The judge is set to make a decision in February. We will keep you informed.

Rumor of Donna High School Shooting Causes Chaos

A rumor sends a Donna High School into complete chaos.
Information of a school shooting spread and parents are upset they were not notified.
It happened this morning at Donna High School. Although hundreds of students left campus, classes continued as scheduled.  The school district did send out a communication with parents assuring them that they were investigating the alert on campus, adding that officials did not confirm any shots fired or that there was any truth to the rumor. Police stayed on campus throughout the day.

Suspect In Convenience Store Shooting On The Run

Authorities questioned a person of interest in connection to the suspect that shot and killed a man outside a convenience store. According to Ricardo Suarez,  Donna Police Captain, the suspect is identified as Fidencio Castillo,  38 years old from Alamo. The victim’s name is Efrain Quiroz Jr., 33 years old also from Alamo. The shooting happened Saturday night at around 10 pm. Through the store’s surveillance video, the Donna police obtained the image of the suspect’s vehicle, which is a blue Dodge truck 2008 with KFC-3128 plates. Captain Suarez told Fox News South Texas that after conducting a search warrant at the suspect’s house, it led them to interrogate a person of interest. Authorities are now offering a one thousand- dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of Fidencio Castillo.
